Announcing ENGAGE Internships for Summer 2010

ENGAGE is launching a new summer internship program for anyone interested in working directly with ENGAGE bases.  The main goals of our internship program are:

  • to create more opportunities for mentoring and training in grassroots organizing for students
  • to support community organizations in building their power and capacity
  • to foster exchange between bases through the intern group, encouraging movement building across issues and sectors of society

Below is a list of potential internship locations and who to contact for more information:

  • Eastern Kentucky: with ESCR-US in partnership with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. Contact: Ilana Garcia-Grossman, ilanagg@gmail.com, and Mariela Rich, mariela.rich@gmail.com
  • New Orleans, Louisiana: with Our School at Blair Grocery Contact: David Ferris, david@osbgnola.org
  • NW Wisconsin: Building Local Food Systems/Food Sovereignty, working with many different groups
    Contact: Arianne Peterson, arianne425@yahoo.com

Internships are also available at the ENGAGE Network Office in Washington, DC. Contact: info@engagetheworld.org

What we offer…

Internships are unpaid, though we will work with you to make it financially possible. Each base has different resources; all will set you up with housing and ideas for other part time work in the area if needed. We’re looking into the possibility of Americorp positions and creating joint internships with some of our partner organizations to be able to pool resources; we will also work with you to get school credit if needed. Length of summer internships: 2-3 months (June-August). Shorter and longer internships are an option for many of these locations and projects; let us know your availability.

Detailed internship profiles coming soon!  Internship applications will be available starting January 10th.
