The 2011 Students worked on collaborative final projects in the following communities:
Rasi Salai – Students collaborated with the emerging green market committee to survey producers and consumers in the area about the demand for organic food and the interest and future feasibility for opening an organic green market!
Huay Muang- Two project groups collaborated with the Huay Muang community. The first group collected information and created a pamphlet on the mountain resources on the mountain where a copper mine has been proposed. The second group conducted research and laid out a plan for a future learning center in the community.
Pong Khun Phet- This is a new community to CIEE and students worked on two projects in the community. The first group compiled the stories and research of a group in the community that has been organizing for the past 18 years to oppose a proposed dam in the area. The second group worked with the community in conducting research on the benefits of Social Impact Assessments and how they can be used effectively to protect community rights.
Reconciliation Political Group- This group reported on cases of red-shirt members jailed for arson crimes in Ubon province. The group was published on a blog featuring perspectives on Southeast Asia called New Mandala.
